Located on the banks of the River Scheldt, Antwerp is known for its beautiful historic buildings, for being the world capital of diamond trade, for being the city in which the painter Rubens lived, and for its many chic stores and fashion designers.
The main square of Antwerp, the Grote Markt, is marked by beautiful 16th and 17th century Guildhouses, among which the city hall stands out. Here we find the statue of Brabo, the hero that, according to legend, triumphed over the tyrant giant Antigoon and founded the city.
See the works of Rubens inside the beautiful Gothic cathedral, in the Museum of Fine Arts, or in Rubens' House, his home and workshop now a museum.

As a university town, the nights are quite lively and the center has plenty of bars and traditional beer gardens. Perfect for trying some of the many and excellent Belgian brands of beer such as De Koninck, made in Antwerp.
The port of Antwerp, an inland estuary navigable by huge cargo ships and nearly integrated into the old historic neighborhood, is one of the world's most important. The waterfront is a nice place for pleasant strolls and watching the comings and goings of traditional vessels as well as industrial freight.
