Kongsvold Fjeldstue provides some of the most charming accommodation in all of Norway. This spot has been an inn since medieval times and the current cluster of tastefully restored old timber buildings with sun-bleached reindeer antlers on the outside walls, dates back to the eighteenth century. Dinner is served in the excellent, reasonably priced restaurant. The complex also includes a cafe and a small national park information center (The Rough Guide to Scandinavia 2006-2007).
Kongsvold Fjeldstue is a hotel situated in beautiful Dovrefjell surroundings offering accommodation to weekend guests and others seeking good, old-fashioned hospitality in an interesting historical setting surrounded by magnificent nature. It is a modern resort with ample facilities to meet high demands while still managing to keep the special historical atmosphere through original pieces of furniture and buildings. The Directory of Cultural Heritage and local craftsmen participated in the most recent renovations. The many fine buildings testify to the prosperity at Kongsvold in the past, which is also reflected by the rich fittings and furnishings accumulated over the years.
Kongsvold is also great for seminars and courses. The unique historical setting, relaxed atmosphere and the skillfully prepared catering provides for small parties as well as occasions where the entire lodge is at your disposition. Dovrefjell provides various possibilities for excursions and walks for every season, and the hotel will be more than happy to arrange excursions and other enjoyable activities.

The Pilgrim Way:
For centuries pilgrims crossed Dovre on their way to Nidaros Cathedral. From Eysteinkjyrkja north along the old 'Royal Road' across Hjerkinnhø you can follow the Pilgrim Way to Kongsvold. The path continues north along Vårstigen to Ryphusan and Dronningdalen to Oppdal. Every year pilgrims leave Kongsvold in groups or individually, headed for Nidaros.
The Norwegian Mountain Touring Association:
From Kongsvold you can also follow paths signposted by the Norwegian Mountain Touring Association: west to Renheim and Åmotsdalhytta and onwards into the Sunndal mountains. East to Sletten farm in Folldal and onwards to Rondane. South to Hjerkinn and Hageseter - from where you can go to Rondane via Grimsdalhytta.
Musk ox safaris:
Guided tours leave Kongsvold daily during the summer season. Interested guests can join experienced guides on safaris to see the musk ox of Dovre.
Hunting and fishing
Licenses to hunt reindeer are sold by the Common Land Boards in Dovre, Lesja and Oppdal, and by the Directory of State Forests and Land. Fishing permits for angling may be purchased at Kongsvold Fjeldstue.
Winter tracks: During ski season several tracks to the mountain are prepared, both on the west side towards Snøhetta, and the east side towards Knutshøene. There you will find seemingly endless mountain plateaus at your feet. The track runs from Kongsvold to Renheim and Åmotsdalhytta. Surrounding Kongsvold Fjeldstue you will also find sledge hills and ski tracks, and if you'd like to visit one of the finest downhill skiing centers in Norway, a trip to Oppdal will take you less than half an hour. Kongsvold Fjeldstue will be more than happy to suggest excursions and other enjoyable activities for their guests.
Kongsvold Alpine Garden:
The garden is run by the Museum of Natural History and Archaeology in Trondheim, it displays alpine plants in their natural habitat. Favourable bedrock, varied terrain and the presence of moist and dry spots enable numerous species to thrive within a small area. Many common alpine plants and some rarer ones can be seen in the garden, it is open from Jun.15 to Aug.20.
