The exclusive private paradise of Turtle Island is a dream come true. Fourteen private sandy beaches await you, fourteen thatched bures are set alongside the famous blue lagoon. There are many idyllic pursuits to be enjoyed from savouring the flavour of lobsters and champagne to horse riding through tropical forests, or perfecting the art of doing nothing at all.

Richard Evanson the owner of the turtle island came in 1972 and with the help of his Fijian neighbors he literally restored the island from the ground up. Over the years, he has planted over 300,000 trees; countless indigenous shrubs; banana, mango and papaya groves and a variety of hard wood trees, some of which he has used to make furniture for the island. He restored and preserved the island's reefs and beaches, and re-introduced dozens of species of indigenous birds and wildlife.

During the late 1970s, after reviewing thousands of exotic islands all over the world for filming the remake of the movie "The Blue Lagoon" (starring Brooke Shields), Columbia Pictures convinced Evanson to let them shoot on Turtle Island. In 1980, Evanson turned the studio's abandoned "bures" (cottages) into comfortable guest suites and opened "Turtle Island Resort".

With great vision, intensive study, countless man hours and substantial financial investment, Evanson continued to make improvements around the island. He created ongoing and comprehensive water management, composting and recycling programs and implemented precise environmental and ecological procedures to preserve his island's natural resources. Particular attention was also paid to maintaining the Fijians' cultural integrity, making Turtle Island one of the premier eco-cultural resorts in the world. For many years, Evanson and Turtle Island guests have contributed to the staff's and neighboring villagers' well-being by building classrooms at local schools and providing free eye and dental clinics.

14 "bures", traditional, two-room, thatched cottages built by Fijian craftsmen. Each has hand woven 21-foot vaulted ceilings, wood or terracotta floors.

Each suite provides separate sleeping, dressing, lounging and bathing areas. All bures have an outdoor verandah, King size four poster bed, two showers, a rattan-furnished sitting room and writing desk, with an extensive dressing area, a private "Hot Springs" jetted spa tub, an outdoor shower and outdoor verandah with daybed.

The Bure at Vonu Point is set on the point of the lagoon with a 360 degree views of the surrounding bays and islands. It is larger than the grand bure but features all the same facilities.

All bures are equipped with a hairdryer, Bose CD player, tea and coffee making facilities, toiletries, iron and ironing board.
