The private park invites you to walk in the middle of a peaceful and varied landscape: gardens, pond, fountain, river, fields, and forest just for you. Cross-country biking along the nearby roads and paths deep in Perche Country is a real joy. Cycles and maps are available at the château.
There are 3 challenging golf courses within 40 minutes of the château and a 10% discount on green fees for Chateau de la Barre guests.
There is a tennis court within a mile away, just 1.6 km.
Hot air balloon flights depart directly from the château mornings and evenings, weather permitting and prior reservation required. (170-240 euro per person, from 2 to 12 people).
You may also enjoy the challenge and sport of hunting (archery or shooting) guided by a professional hunter on his 2000 acre domain 3 miles away. That's 809.37 hectares at just 4.83 km distance. He offers a variety of game in an especially well managed reserve. Reservations are required and price quote upon request.
Shiatsu and reflexology massages in the privacy of your own room are available Fridays and Saturdays upon reservation. 60 euros per person, 100 euros for 2.
Themed Events: Cooking Classes in April, May and September to December; Wine and Cheese Tasting Courses; and French Lessons from October to March.
Special Events: The entire château can be hired for special events such as New Year, birthdays, anniversaries, or simply for get-togethers of family and friends. There is a 3 day minimum and the price depends on the season, number of guests etc. and so is upon request.
Transportation: The nearest airport is Tours, a 1hr. drive. It would be 110 euro for pickup service or a car can be rented at the airport. Paris airport is at 140 mi. or 225.31 km. distance, so renting a car at the airport is better than a pickup service costing over 300 euro, but it could be arranged. Alternatively, there is a high speed train from Paris to Vendome, which is just a 25 minute drive from the château. It would be 50 euro for pickup service or a car can be rented at the station.
Children: There are many fragile antiques in the house which may not be appropriate for young children, but older children are welcome and will enjoy exploring the 16th Century fortifications.
One room has a Jacuzzi and a safe deposit box is available at reception.
