Built at the end of the 18th Century, the Mas Dou Pastre was originally a shepherds farm house which only consisted of the now, central building. The same family has been living there since its beginning, and their ancestors extended it as and when required. The house and profession of shepherding had been passed from father to son for generations. However when the current owners parents retired, the profession of shepherding was no longer financially viable, so the family decided to open the old farmhouse and share it with guests.
At the Mas du Pastre, the garden is a room like any other; some say that it is in fact the main room of the house. You can wander, stroll, and rejuvenate there and during the summer months you can practically live there.
The owners have devoted a lot of time scouring markets, fairs, car boot sales and antique shops in the region for beautiful and genuine objects. They fill the house so that every glance will be a wonder and a new discovery.
For those who can manage to tear themselves away from the tranquillity of this place, there are a number of things to discover within a short distance:
St Rémy de Provence and Avignon, the city of the popes; Arles, Nîmes or the Camargue and Saintes Maries de la Mer; Cavaillon and the Luberon; Aix en Provence or Marseilles. |
