 Imaret Hotel, Kavala

Imaret is a new luxurious hospitality property located within the homonymous historical monument overlooking the city of Kavala in northern Greece. Following many years of renovation, the original building has been carefully restored into a hotel featuring 26 deluxe rooms and suites each unique in design and decor, a gourmet restaurant, a conference room, a reception hall, an indoor heated pool under the original domes, an oriental hamam, a courtyard pool and a special area for massage and relaxation. The hotel is characterized by very elegant accommodations and high standards of service.

Originally built in 1817 by Mohamed Ali Pasha, the founder of the Egyptian dynasty of Fouats, the Imaret consisted of a series of inter-related buildings, including schools, a Mosque, a Hamam, administrative offices and the Imaret itself (Dining Facility). During the last phase of the Ottoman Empire it quickly became a recognized center of learning throughout the Balkans. The complex crowns the hillside of Panagia, the city's historical district, offering stunning views to the sea and the surrounding hills.

The building is considered to be an architectural delight blending the oriental and western influences of the époque. The restoration was carried out in full compliance with the cultural heritage of the monument and the distinct architectural details. The project was under the supervision of archeologists and architects from both the Greek and the Egyptian Ministries of Culture. After almost a century of neglect, the monument has been fully restored to become the first hotel operating within a historical building in Greece.
