Small Boutique hotels in Sorrento Coast-Capri

The Bay of Naples is found on the south-western coast of Italy, with the Sorrento Coast its southern peninsula. For centuries, this dramatic coastline with its high cliffs, secluded coves and thermal waters has inspired poets and writers, among them Byron, Ibsen and Goethe. Today, much of the coast is part of the protected Punta Campanella Marine Park.

The picturesque towns of Sorrento, Massa Lubrense and Vico Equense have a long tradition as holiday resorts with their historic centres, waterside restaurants and small luxury hotels perched on cliff tops. They all benefit from stunning views across the bay and the fascinating presence of Mount Vesuvius.

Mount Vesuvius has a mythical status that extends far beyond the Bay of Naples. An active volcano, it is renowned for the violent eruption of 79AD that buried Pompeii. Undiscovered until 1748, Pompeii is now a World Heritage Site that offers a fascinating glimpse of a city at the height of the Roman Empire.

The island of Capri, located off the tip of the Sorrentine Peninsula, was the destination of choice for the Jet Set during the 1950s. The panoramic promenade, Belvedere di Tragara, features numerous exclusive villas including one designed by the rationalist architect Libera.
