Description: Palacio BelmonteLocated in the heart of the historical district of Lisbon, Palácio Belmonte boasts 2,130 years of unbroken history and is the oldest of its kind in the city. This national monument overlooks the rooftops of the old city and the Straw Sea [River Tagus]. During the past six years, Palácio Belmonte has been transformed into an exclusive eight-suite property using traditional building techniques and products from the country. The result is a peaceful, authentic and luxurious hotel with five terraces, sitting rooms and libraries. To match the fabulous collection of 17th and 18th Century tiles, antiques have been sourced from the same period and blended with modernity, art and beautiful carpets. It?s an ideal location for those who seek tranquillity, beauty, space and fresh sea air. Palácio Belmonte provides a secluded base from which to explore the city of Lisbon, its architecture and intense cultural life. There is also a beautiful garden which has been totally redesigned and planted according to organic principles with usable and numerous local species, plants, fruit, trees and flowers. Type of rooms: Palacio BelmonteEach of the 10 exquisite suites is an original masterpiece with individual character, blending historic architectural features with the utmost comfort in contemporary design. Visitors are immersed in culture - within the suites, guests discover the remnants of Roman and Moorish towers, and distinctive, blue and white XVIII century's Portuguese tiles (azulejos) that recall stories of adventure and romance. Each suite is named for a Portuguese writer, artist, philosopher, adventurer, inventor or ecologist. Many have beautiful terraces or verandas overlooking the River Tagus, the inviting city of old Lisbon below or the palace's striking swimming pool. Suites range in size from 29 sq meters to more than 162 sq meters. Amadeo Souza Cardoso - Presidential suite - An extraordinary suite lined with an impressive collection of XVIII century 'azulejo' tile panels and sporting a cathedral height ceiling, a living room with fireplace, a dining room and a queen size half-canopied bed hung with deep red silks. Running along the length of the suite there is a large veranda with a stunning view of the garden and the river beyond, giving the entire suite incredible lighting. It has a most fascinating marble bathroom, and an additional private terrace with a beautiful river view. Total area 120 sqm. Bartolomeu de Gusmao - Considered by Condé Nast to be one of the most beautiful suites in the world, this is a 3 level double suite built in one of the 7th century Muslim towers. It has a superb terrace with an expansive view over the Alfama and the river Tejo and a very rare octagonal living room with a vaulted ceiling and original XVIII century azulejo tile panels. Marble bathroom with bathtub. Total area 110 sqm. Padre Himalaya - The Honey Moon suite - a romantic 2 level double suite built at the top of the Roman tower. With windows on all sides the bedroom is certainly one of the most extraordinary rooms in the world with a 360° view over the Alfama, the river Tejo and Castle.
