High in New Zealand's Southern Alps, on the edge of the Mt Aspiring National Park, lies a unique alpine escape - Whare Kea Chalet - luxury where you would least expect to find it.

Make your way to the Chalet by helicopter. Enjoy a guided alpine walk followed by a gourmet picnic surrounded by the vista of high rocky mountains, glaciers, residual snow fields and alpine meadows.

Whare Kea Lodge is located on 60 acres of private farmland on the shore of Lake Wanaka. This inspiring building captures the full beauty and grandeur of its lake-side setting and alpine views, whilst providing the ultimate in sophisticated accommodation for guests.

Lake Wanaka celebrates four distinct seasons, with a variety of activities, attractions and unique wilderness areas. Centrally located in the Southern Lakes district travellers are well placed to access the Mount Aspiring, Fiordland, Mount Cook and Westland National Parks and the vast rural landscape that lies between. Whare Kea Lodge provides a relaxing base to absorb the ambience of this lake-side resort, and explore the surrounding region.

Whare Kea means 'house of the kea' in Maori. It is pronounced 'far-eh-kee-ah'. The Kea, the world's only alpine parrot, lives high above the snowline in the surrounding mountains.

Bookings for the Chalet can only be made as part of a reservation booked at Whare Kea Lodge. The Chalet at Mt Aspiring has two bedrooms each with double bed. An additional two guests can be accommodated in a comfortable and spacious loft. The guests and staff share all facilities including bathroom.
The Chalet is located in the heart of the Southern Alps , therefore no guarantee can be given that the weather will be suitable for flying and/or gaining access to the Chalet. When it is not possible to stay in the Chalet, there will be refunds. However the guide charge will still apply, and he will be available for alternative activities.

The restaurant provides meals for guests only. SKY TV is available in the games room.

Transfers to and from Queenstown Airport by helicopter are available upon application.

Booking and cancellation policy

Deposit Policy: Reservations are secured upon payment of 50% deposit of total individual reservation. Final payment is due 30 days prior to arrival to confirm the reservation.

Cancellation Policy - Deposit (50%) is refundable (less $200.00 administration fee per booking) only if a cancellation is made more than 30 days prior to commencement of stay. Cancellations made less than 30 days prior to commencement of stay (regardless of reason) will forfeit full deposit.

All rates are subject to Whare Kea's general Booking terms and conditions.

Please note: a 18% surcharge applies on all tariffs at Whare Kea Lodge & Chalet on New Zealand Public Holidays.

Reservations can be made via email to Rebecca Stettner or by telephone during normal business hours (New Zealand Time).

All tariffs include the use of all lodge facilities, a four-course gourmet table d'hote dinner and continental or country style cooked breakfast.
Whare Kea Lodge is a fully licensed establishment.
Lunch is not included in any Whare Kea tariffs, however lunch can be provided to suit guests needs whether it is a packed lunch, gourmet picnic, or in-house sit down lunch. It would be appreciated if these were to be arranged prior to arrival or on check-in. Prices are on application.

Other Whare Kea Lodge extras (not included and to be paid) include; all alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages, telephone calls and faxes, wireless internet access for your laptop is $10.00 per day including limited amount of information down-loading, in-house laundry service, massages, and any other outside services invoiced through Whare Kea Lodge and Chalet. For information regarding a stay at the Chalet, helicopter, and mountain guide rates, please contact Whare Kea Lodge directly.
