Located in the geographical centre of the Iberian Peninsula, Madrid is a grand city, although it could also be considered the sum of several smaller towns. Salamanca, Malasaña, Lavapiés, Chamberí, Huertas, de los Austrias, Moncloa, La Latina... each neighbourhood is different. The whole city centres around one main axis consisting of the boulevards del Prado, de Recoletos and de la Castellana. Madrid also has a wealth of green spaces, the most famous of which is Parque del Retiro.
The numerous bars and cafes in Madrid are an essential part of the city. Madrileños think nothing of having a beer and a tapas in the middle of the afternoon or spending several hours chatting over a coffee on a sunny terrace.
