Having been restored and renovated with the utmost care, this manor house dating from the Seventeenth Century has been converted into a boutique hotel where peace and tranquillity reign. San Roque is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating hotels in the Canary Islands. The abandoned 17th Century mansion which once belonged to the de Ponte family (who were the founders of the village) was discovered by the Frenchman Dominique Carayon in 1992. It was his love of the arts along with the inspiration and help of the Spanish architect Jose Luis Adelantado which turned the old mansion into the beautiful hotel that it is today. The design is based upon a deliberate combination of new and old, wood and steel, geometric shapes, and warm earthy colours. As you enter the San Roque you are immediately presented with an impressive modern steel sculpture placed in the centre of it's old courtyard. The San Roque also offers a variety of works created by famous Bauhaus designers, such as Le Corbusier, Mies van de Rohe, Eileen Grey and others like Charles Mackintosh, from the Glasgow school. The quality of furnishings and décor are of a uniformly high standard. Not one of the 20 rooms is alike. Each room has its own unique design. Some suites have a split-level layout.
