A visit to Koyao Island Resort is not only about ordinary luxury such as exclusive spa facilities, fine dining and a gorgeous pool. It is about the true privilege of really being at peace - in the midst of the most fruitful, pristine and welcoming nature on earth.
Koyao Island Resort is located in the famous archipelago of Phang Nga Bay near Phuket in southern Thailand. Remote but still accessible, surrounded by secluded beaches, rain forests and uninhabited islands in a place where mass tourism is far away and the original Thai hospitality has free reign.
Villas are built in the original Andaman Sea - gypsy style which is optimal for comfort and for the environment. They have used unique local resources with a traditional background while still maintaining, if not surpassing, all modern standards. The mangrove palm leaf roofs of the villas breathe and do not store heat, and air conditioners are definitely not needed. Rain water is collected in reservoirs and cleaned naturally for drinking and bathing. All villas have and undisturbed, spectacular, sea views of the famous Phang Nga Bay and can be opened up to the stars at night - and in the morning the rising sun shines onto the beds.

Facilities: you have a hard choice when you get up! On your left, you find the cook making Thai and international dishes, fresh from the nets of the local fishermen, in the cosy restaurant. On your right you can already feel the soothing sounds and fragrances coming from the Spa, and straight ahead the relaxed library and its internet corner. Then there are the tropical drinks on display in the bar. Make sure to stay for one of the famed starlight barbecues on one of the romantic sandbanks in the bay. Thai and European dishes are available a la carte, but they also offer daily set menus.
Beach & Pool: All year round, calm and inviting waters enclose the resort's private beach. Sheltered under a palm tree, an afternoon siesta becomes a lazy must. Enjoy the fabulous view over the archipelago from the Infinite Horizon swimming pool.
Activities: The activity centre can help you arrange a boat trip to one of the many delightful neighbouring islands or will pick just the right motorbike or boat for your activity. Baby sitting is available on request and there are books, DVDs and sports equipment for older children. If you still can't make up your mind, maybe the German, Thai and Dutch management team can help you speculate about other options, they are always open for suggestions, and planning is half the fun. Enjoy snorkelling, diving, island hopping, fishing, water sports, kayaking, bird-watching, biking, rock-climbing, jungle tracking, boating, and island discovery.
Use one of the resort's mountain or motorbikes and to explore the island. The roads are easy to navigate and local people more than willing to help you should you get lost. If you feel like a more leisurely day, hire a Tuk Tuk (taxi) and driver guide and set of for a day of fun and adventure.
You are highly likely to see some of the regions most beautiful flora and fauna right on site. They have monkeys, giant lizards, sea eagles, hornbills, kingfishers, and of course the charming local buffalos and goats. For fishermen, take your chances with groupers, snappers, carangues and barracuda. Diving can be arranged through local operators.
Spa: the Koyao Island Resort Spa provides you with all the therapies to relax your mind, body and spirit. The indoor and outdoor treatment beds are comfortably placed so that some of the island's best views can be enjoyed while you relax and let yourself be pampered. Choose an outdoor bed and hear the sound of waves lapping to shore while you lay in the natural breeze or an air-conditioned room with your own private shower and dressing facilities. Your personal masseuse will see that every need is attended to and explain the resort's wide range of all natural products used during treatment.
Nearby Islands: do some romantic beach hopping or snorkeling among coral reefs on the lonely neighboring islands. Thailand's vibrant corals and colorful fishes draw divers from all over the world. Most islands are uninhabited. They hold hidden anchorage and secret beaches under soaring jungle-fringed cliffs: The typical craggy limestone formations which rise from the sea like sculptures have taken millions of years to form, and are not to be missed. Take a day trip to one or two of the surrounding islands. Koyao Island Resort staff can arrange a perfect day out for you. There is a large excursion book at reception.
At the resort there are boats for those who enjoy canvassing the sea. There are also canoes and fishing rods available. For day trips it is normal to use a traditional Thai 'longtail' boat - so named as its propeller is on the end of a long pole. On these excursions you visit mangrove forests, coves and caves, crystal clear waters and uninhabited islets. The islets and islands around Koh Yao Noi are formed by millions of years of deposits and are now made up essentially of limestone. Rock climbing is possible on the limestone cliffs and their weird formations make for some stunning photography at different times of the day.
Outings can be arranged to Koh Yao Yai, Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi or even to the popular Ao Nang - all trips take maximum one hour travel time.
Getting around: For your convenience they also provide transportation on the island and to and from destinations such as Phuket and Krabi.
Getting there: Transportation services booked and operated by the resort, charged separately. Just tell them what time you want to be picked up at the airport and they will arrange the rest. The round trip in a private car from the airport and including a private boat to the resort costs 3,200 THB per person. Children under 12 years old free.
The taxi ride from Phuket International Airport to Bang Rong Pier takes around 30 minutes. The boat trip from Bang Rong Pier to the island takes approx 60 minutes.
