Lewtrenchard Manor on the northern edge of Dartmoor is a Jacobean manor house full of original features. Built by the Monk family around 1600 on the site of an earlier house, the manor is rich in ornate ceilings, lovely oak paneling, carvings and large open fireplaces.

Since coming to Lewtrenchard in 1988, the Murray family have enhanced the warm atmosphere of the lovely old house with family antiques, warm colours and comfortable furniture. The gardens have been restored and are now part of the National Garden Scheme.

Surrounding the house and gardens is the timeless and very peaceful Lewtrenchard Estate, which offers clay pigeon shooting, rough shooting and fishing in the River Lew. Lovely walks start from the doorstep of this delightful house. You can explore the surrounding countryside of Dartmoor, Exmoor, Plymouth and There are good facilities for riding nearby, and golf on local and championship courses can be arranged.

Their restaurant is much acclaimed by the critics and has been awarded 2 rosettes by the AA. Diners at Lewtrenchard are treated to generous helpings of wholesome modern English food, meticulously prepared and beautifully presented. Flavoursome rather than fussy, all dishes are made from the very finest fresh local ingredients. In the winter there is a strong emphasis on Devonshire game, snipe, teal, woodcock, pheasant, mallard and venison. The fishmonger calls every morning from the quayside at Looe, and locally caught wild salmon are an occasional feature. All of the herbs and most of the vegetables are grown in Lewtrenchard's own walled garden.
