Florida, known as the 'Sunshine State', occupies the large peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean in the southeast of the United States. Its pleasant year-round climate and more than 1,600 kilometres of coastline are two of its main attractions for visitors, although not the only ones.
The west coast benefits from the warmer waters of the Gulf of Mexico and boasts hundreds of pleasant, calm beaches. Among its towns are Clearwater and Saint Petersburg. The Atlantic coast on the eastern side also has numerous beautiful beaches and several major cities including Fort Lauderdale, Daytona, Jacksonville and Miami.

Disney World, Universal film studios and Sea World are all located around Orlando in the centre of the state, also renowned for its orange and lemon groves. In the tropical zone to the south of Miami are the famous Florida Keys, an archipelago of over 1700 islands. To the west are the broad marshes of the Everglades national park.
