The Captain Lord Mansion was built during the War of 1812 as an elegant private residence, by wealthy shipbuilder Nathaniel Lord. Nathaniel chose famous architect Thomas Eaton to design his house and it rivals the finest Federal Period homes found in places like Salem, Ma. and Newburyport, Ma., two other towns famous for their remaining Federal mansions.

The Captain Lord Mansion is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been operated as a Bed and Breakfast Inn for 25 years.

The Inn provides service with meticulous attention to quality and cleanliness perhaps because they are a family owned and operated inn. It has touches of detail which are evident in each guest room. Custom Made Draperies, dust ruffles and throw pillows, combined with personally selected wall coverings, upholstery fabrics, and bed linens create a warm and personal room environment.

Ten visits to Mansion earn you an engraved stone in their beautiful "Memory Garden". The "Memory Garden" is a serene and sunny flower garden with water fountain which grace the side lawn of the inn adjacent to the guest entrance.

The inn is located just three short blocks from the commercial center of Kennebunkport, Dock Square. There a guest may find small art galleries, boutiques, restaurants, gift shops, and lots of "Kodak" moments. The Kennebunk River splits the area in two and there are great sights of lobster boats, pleasure boats, and tourist cruise ships crowded around the wharves on the river.
