Family owned and run for more than forty years, Headlam Hall is a wonderful spot for relaxing stays in this beautiful corner of county Durham. Notable landmarks and attractions in the immediate area include Barnard Castle, the Bowes Museum, Eggleston Hall and the National Railway museum, among many other fascinating sights. Surrounded by its own picturesque though challenging nine-hole golf course, other on-site facilities include a modern Spa with a heated indoor pool, an outdoor hot tub, a sun terrace, sauna and steam room. A range of treatments and therapies are available, and there is a stylish Brasserie serving light meals and drinks throughout the day.
Headlam Hall's restaurant is the proud holder of two AA Rosettes, and serves tasty menus based on the finest modern British and continental cuisines, with the emphasis firmly placed on the finest fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Dining can be enjoyed in three distinct spaces, including the cosy panelled dining room and the elegant Orangerie, with a fresh, informal and sunny atmosphere.

These well appointed rooms are tastefully decorated with neutral colours and contemporary Yorkshire wool fabrics to provide comfortable accommodation. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, showers over baths, clothes iron/board, tea/coffee making facilities and complimentary mineral water. The typical room size is 16 to18 sq m and they are located on the first floor and ground floor of the Coach House, just across the courtyard via a covered walkway.
Attractive ground floor 'cottage style' bedrooms with soft colours, contemporary Yorkshire wool fabrics and photographic art of the local countryside. These six rooms are located across the driveway from the Main Hall (umbrellas provided) and have private car parking places immediately outside the door, giving them a touch of independence. All have flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, showers over baths, bath robes, clothes iron/board, tea/coffee making facilities and complimentary mineral water. The typical room size is 20 to 22 sq m (Mews single room 12 sq m). These bedrooms are suitable for guests with dogs and two are suitable for guests requiring improved accessibility (wheel chair users).
Main Hall Rooms:
These are located on the first and second floor of the Main Hall and offer period décor, elegant fabrics and furnishings (some antique pieces) in keeping with a traditional country manor house. The newly appointed bathrooms offer stylish tiling and fittings with either showers over baths or spacious walk-in shower only. Some rooms have four-poster beds and all have either rural or garden views. They have flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, clothes iron/board, bath robes, tea/coffee making facilities and complimentary mineral water. Due to the nature of this 17th century manor house the bedroom and bathroom sizes and shapes do vary but at the same time each has a unique character and charm. Typical room sizes are 22 to 30 sq m.
Main Hall Deluxe: - as above but these rooms have feature bathrooms with a large bath and separate walk-in shower enclosure.
Located on the first floor of the Spa building with superb views over the gardens, golf course and surrounding countryside. These rooms have a contemporary country style with light colours, bright fabrics, original local artwork and attractive bathroom suites. They feature flat-screen TVs, iPod/iPhone speaker docks, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, power showers over baths, bathrobes, ironing centres, tea/coffee making facilities and complimentary mineral water. Two of these bedrooms also enjoy private south facing balconies with a beautiful outlook. The Spa is approximately 30 m from the Main Hall and the route is partly uncovered (umbrellas provided). The typical room size is 22 to 24 sq m.
Spa Balcony Rooms: - as the name suggests, these rooms have the added benefit of a private balcony with seating for two and views to the south over gardens, golf course and countryside.
There are three Junior Suites; two in the Main Hall and one in the Spa with the styles/decor reflecting their situation (see Main Hall Rooms and Spa Rooms descriptions) and all with attractive views. These suites offer private entrance corridor, spacious lounge areas either within the room or in a separate sitting room (with sofa bed) and well appointed bathroom suites. They have flat-screen TVs, iPod/iPhone speaker dock, free Wi-Fi, ironing centres, bathrobes, tea/coffee making facilities and complimentary mineral water. The typical overall floor area is 30 to 38 sq m.
There are two Premier Suites; the Virginia Suite in the Spa building (contemporary) and the Lord Gainford Suite in the Main Hall (traditional). They both offer large flat-screen TVs with DVD player, BOSE iPod/iPhone speaker docks, free Wi-Fi, ironing centres, bath robes, tea/coffee making facilities and complimentary mineral water. The Virginia Suite has a private entrance hall, separate bedroom and sitting room, bathroom with two wash basins and a separate cloakroom. It enjoys fantastic views over the gardens and golf course and it has fresh contemporary décor as in the other Spa Rooms. The overall area of the suite is approximately 38 sq m. The Lord Gainford Suite has a large bedroom with a four-poster bed and a huge sitting room with six large windows that look out over the main lawn and garden. The spacious bathroom includes an elegant slipper bath and large walk-in shower. This was the original 'Lord & Lady of the Manor's bedroom'! The overall suite area is approximately 45 sq m.
