This fascinating property is set in a historic Dutch fortress, originally built between 1877 and 1880. After a long and varied history, Fort Bakkerskil was purchased by the Brabants Landscape organisation, and in 2012, after a careful restoration, was opened as a luxury boutique bed and breakfast. This national monument, once a chilly and stark fortress, is now a warm and cosy heritage accommodation. Ideal for family weekends, it is a perfect base for hiking trips, cycling, heritage tours and boat trips. Close to the Biesbosch and the Fortress Triangle, it is also within easy reach of Breda, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Den Bosch.

Accommodation at Fort Bakkerskil consists of seven separate quarters, all on the ground floor, and each has their own separate entrance. All rooms are centrally heated, and are equipped with Wi-Fi and TV. There is also a room available for guests with limited mobility. Breakfast is served every morning in the dining area, or on the terrace in fine weather. On request, and with advance booking, high tea can be served for up to ten guests.

Fort Bakkerskil is an environmentally friendly establishment, and heating and hot water are generated by with CO2-neutral wood-chips. It is also a member of the exclusive Erfgoed Logies organisation.

The Old Infirmary:
A comfortable double bedroom with two box-spring beds (90 x 200). Furnished with a table, chairs and a lounge / sofa bed. The room comes with a Senso coffee-maker and a kettle. Private bathroom with a sink, toilet and shower. Room size 22 sq m.
Officer's Room:
This unusual room, with a spacious bathroom, has two comfortable box-spring beds (90 x 200), a lounge / sofa bed, a wardrobe and a small table with two chairs. This room has a private bathroom with a sink, toilet, shower and a bathtub. Room size 22 sq m.
A Depot/B Depot:
These are large, luxurious rooms with a bedroom and bathroom on the lower ground floor. On the upper floor there is a lounge area with a sofa and two armchairs with great views of the canal and the surrounding landscape. These rooms feature a kitchenette with a refrigerator and microwave. They also have a private bathroom with a sink, a shower and a toilet.
