Brussels is renowned as a cosmopolitan and multicultural city thanks to the many EU government employees as well as immigration from Central Europe and even Africa, but it still has the pleasant small town feeling - even though it is the largest urban area in Belgium.
The Grand-Place, the city's central square, is surrounded by beautiful buildings of different architectural styles, the most outstanding being the Town Hall. Nearby we find the famous Manneken Pis sculpture which has become the symbol of the city, and the Royal Galleries of Saint-Hubert. The historic center, where we find most of the places of interest to visitors, can easily be explored on foot.
In the Treurenberg Hill area, we find the Saint Michael and Gudula Cathedral, the Palace of the Nation, the Flemish Parliament building, as well as the Museum of Modern Art and the Royal Museum of Fine Art.
In the Sablon area, located behind the Royal Palace, there are numerous antique stores, old bookshops, and open air markets, in addition to many beer bars and cafés. The large leisure park, Bruparck, and the curious sculpture known as Atomium also deserve a visit. Our small luxury hotels in Brussels are spread out throughout the city, although most of the boutique hotels we selected are around the Grand-Place.
