The Dodecanese Islands are the furthest east of the Greek Islands, closer to Turkey than mainland Greece, where the Aegean Sea meets Asia Minor. Rhodes is the largest of the group and the most significant in terms of both its history and its present with thousands of visitors flocking to its shores during the summer season.
The Colossus of Rhodes was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world and although nothing is left of this monument, its presence is still felt at the harbour entrance of Rhodes Town. The Medieval Citadel, with its maze of streets and impressive stone walls, is incredibly well preserved and now a World Heritage Site.
Further south, Lindos is a popular destination for both its golden beaches and its acropolis, a rocky outcrop 116m above the town. The archaeological remains at this site include a 4th Century BC Temple to Athena, a Byzantine church and a warship sculpted into the rock. The modern town offers traditional Greek tavernas as well as contemporary bars and boutique hotels.
Most of the small luxury hotels on Rhodes are found in or around these two towns. Although ideal bases from which to explore the island, it is beyond their walls that the crowds thin out and a more authentic Rhodes with its beautiful coastlines, Crusader castles and wonderful climate emerges.
The Melenos Lindos Hotel is the unique creation of Michalis Melenos who dreamed of building a small luxury hotel that reflected the intricate history of Lindos on the island of Rhodes, Greece.
Nikos and Takis Fashion Hotel is located on the most south-eastern island of the Mediterranean, right in the center of the historical town of Rhodes.
