Located in the southeast of Austria, Graz is an enchanting city that invites you to stroll through one of the best preserved historical centers in Europe. Capital of the Styrian region, the relevance of the old town, with splendid medieval and Renaissance buildings of Italian influence, has earned it a UNESCO World Heritage Site status.
Hauptplatz is at the heart and soul. Among the liveliest streets, Stadtpfarrkirche boasts beautiful façade buildings. And Herengase is ideal for frequenting the charming Austrian coffee houses. One of the symbols of Graz located in Schlossberg, next to the old town, is the The Clock Tower with a wonderful view. You can go up by funicular and come down the striking Kriegssteig stairway which is attached to the mountain.

With its designation as European Capital of Culture, there are buildings of avant-garde architecture such as the Museum of Art, by architects Peter Cook and Colin Fournier, (popularly known as friendly alien by the locals). It deserves to be seen by day and also at night with the translucent facade illuminated. The Island of Mur, designed by the artist Vito Acconci, is an unusual floating construction in the shape of a half shell that houses a small amphitheater and a cafe. It is in the middle of the river and joined to the banks by a walkway.
As the second largest Austrian city, its medium size makes it a really attractive place without tourist turmoil. In the old town, you will find charming boutique hotels. |
