Salzburg, in northeastern Austria, has been irretrievably linked to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The genius of music permeates so many places here. It is precisely on the most famous street in the city, Getreidegasse, where his home is located, today a museum. With splendid 18th century furniture, it will transport you to the atmosphere in which the composer lived. Added to the charm of the old houses of this emblematic main street is the tradition of wrought iron work from the Middle Ages applied to striking commercial signs.
The beauty of the historic center of Salzburg has earned it the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

If you can time it right with the sunset, visit the Hohensalburg Fortress, the largest in Europe built between the eleventh and sixteenth centuries, and marvel at the bewitching panoramic view of the city at dusk. In the interior, the Golden Room stands out with a spectacular ceramic stove from the 16th century. In the opposite direction, from Kapitelplatz, one of Salzburg's charming squares, there is an imposing view of the fortress. Also very popular is Residenzplatz, the former residence of the archbishops.
Other emblematic buildings are the Salzburg Cathedral, where Mozart was organist, and the Hellbrunn Palace, both from the Baroque period. |
