Only reachable by boat - a fifteen minute trip from the south shore of the lake - or on foot - three hours from the same point - Aguas Arriba Lodge is a fabulous spot to escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Built entirely in locally sourced, sustainable timber, Aguas Arriba Lodge generates its own electricity, and there is no mobile telephone reception. Particularly focused towards hiking, trekking and lakeside activities, Aguas Arriba Lodge offers a range of fabulous excursions and climbs in the surrounding forests and mountains, some of the most spectacular and unspoilt on the planet. Other activities include fly fishing on the lake or nearby rivers, and fishing permits are available at the lodge.
The best way to describe menus at Aguas Arriba Lodge is that they are fresh, natural, and local, and created from Grandmother's recipes. The lodge's friendly staff will do their utmost to accommodate any food and diet preferences, and guests can visit the vegetable garden to choose the day's fresh produce, or learn how to cook some of the lodge's home-made recipes. An excellent selection of Argentine wines are available, and meals can be enjoyed by the fireplace in the spacious, cosy dining room, with panoramic views of the lake, or on the lakeside deck, overlooking the glaciers and Mount Fitz Roy.
Type of rooms: Aguas Arriba LodgeGlacier: Three front-facing Premium lake view suites located on the first floor of the lodge, west oriented, with stunning views of the Lago del Desierto and Vespignani Glacier. Suite size from 17 to 24 sq m.
Fitz Roy: Two corner Premium Suites with south-west orientation, with spectacular views of Mount Fitz Roy tos the north, and the Vespignani glacier and Lago del Desierto to the west. Suite sizes 20 to 27 sq m.
Forest: One North oriented room with views to the Nothofagus forest. Two separate spaces that are joined by an interior door. One of the rooms can be arranged either as a cosy living room or as an extra bedroom (single/double), ideal for families.
All rooms include daily maid service, and a private bathroom.

How to get here: From El Calafate take National Route 40 North or from Tres Lagos go South until the junction with Provincial route N23, then turn west and continue for 94 km until El Chalten. After driving through the town, head North on N23 and drive 37 km along Las Vueltas river on the gravel until you arrive to Lago del Desierto South point. The car can be parked in the public parking lot. Close by there is a national guard base. It is not a private parking lot.
Once at Lago del Desierto South Point, a boat from the Lodge will meet guests and take them on a 15 minutes ride along the East shore of the lake to get to the Lodge. If preferred the guests can choose to leave their luggage in the boat and get to the Lodge by a 3 hour hike through the forest.
