Description: Casa Velha do PalheiroCasa Velha do Palheiro was built in the early 19th Century as a hunting lodge for the Count of Carvalhal and was bought in 1885 by John Burden Blandy. The Casa Velha (“Old House”) was restored in 1996 and opened on 1st May 1997 as one of Madeira’s first 5-star Country House Hotels.
The hotel is now a part of Palheiro Nature Estate. Since its acquisition by the Blandy family in 1885, successive generations have managed the transition from traditional farming to leisure-based activities. This strong tradition of hospitality and quality continues in all areas today, from golf and the hotel to the gardens and flower business from real estate to property management and even the sports motor cruiser. The names of Blandy and Palheiro are synonymous with quality on Madeira Island and beyond.

How to get here: On exiting the airport take the motorway in direction to Funchal.
Look carefully for the numbered exit signs on the motorway and leave at exit nº 13 indicating Funchal (Boa Nova); Palheiro Ferreiro.
Check your speed as the exit ramp is quite short, and turn right following the sign indicating Palheiro Ferreiro; Palheiro Golf.
After the first bend take the first turning to your left always following the signs up the hill to Palheiro Golf.
On entering Palheiro Estate you will see the sign indicating Casa Velha to your left.
The hotel is another 500 metres along the road.
