The smallest of the Cyclades island in Greece is still the most untouched. Folégandros emerges from the Aegean Sea as only 12 km long and 4 km wide with an austere beauty that is captivating.
The capital Chora looks like a set of bright white cubes with intense blue doors and windows. Discover Greek architecture in its purest state seated on one of the island's cliffs. Kastro is the oldest and most picturesque area. On the hill, the Pangia church acts as a pole of attraction and the ascent is irresistible: a wonderful zigzag path flanked with whitewashed stones will guide you.

This little paradise includes two more settlements: Karavostasis and Ano Meria, at the other end. It is an island of rustic soul where donkeys acquire an endearing role. Small hermitages crowning hills stand as landmarks to watch sunsets that are not to be forgotten.
Embedded in the perimeter of Folégandros, are almost twenty beaches and coves. Many are reached through trails and others are easier to access by sea. There is regular boat service. Another option is to go around the island completely, anchoring in half a dozen coves, such as Katergo and Agios Georgios. The ferry ride to this island from the port of Piraeus in Athens, takes five hours. |
