Small Boutique hotels in AEOLIAN ISLANDS

As recounted by Homer in The Odyssey, Ulysses stopped to rest in these islands. Belonging to Italy, the seven small islands north of Sicily are a place to discover a lost paradise.

In Lípari, the largest of the islands, Ugo di Sant'Onofrio square is its important center. The Archaeological Museum houses one of the most remarkable collections of sunken sea treasures in Europe. From the vineyards staggered on the terraces of Salina, comes the precious Malvasia wine. Panarea, the fashionable island among the Italian jet set, is surrounded by eight islets. This archipelago of volcanic origin was formed from different eruptions.

The crater of the island of Strómboli is still active with a spectacular incandescent lava river of 1 km. wide in Sciara del Fuoco. Greek mythology points to the island of Vulcano as the abode of Eolo, god of the winds. The ascent to the crater of the volcano is one popular activity as is hot mud baths in natural pools in Porto di Levante. Alicudi and Filicudi are the most untouched islands.

The entire group is a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site. Do not leave the area without tasting the spaghetti "a la Eoliana", with capers and herbs. The white architecture of the Aeolian Islands also features small charming hotels.
