In southwestern Africa, between Angola, Zambia, Botswana and South Africa, lies Namibia, a country of vast open spaces, extraordinary natural wealth and an extensive coastline washed by the Atlantic Ocean.

one of the most important reserves on the continent. Its vast salt pans and numerous waterholes attract elephants, lions, rhinos, giraffes, zebras and a wide variety of bird species.

The capital, Windhoek, is the country’s main political and economic centre and combines African and European influences. In the south, Lüderitz retains its distinctive colonial architecture and strong links to the region’s German history.

Game meats such as oryx, kudu and antelope are common in local cuisine, as are grilled meats prepared in the traditional braai style. Along the coast, fresh fish and seafood take centre stage, while German influence can be found in breads, pastries and craft beers.
