Another case entirely are the Asturian cities which are of a comfortable middle size. Of Oviedo, the capital, is said to be the cleanest historic center in all of Spain. Countless statues in the streets create an unusual outdoor artistic treasure hunt. The three extraordinary pre-Roman churches are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Do not leave the city without going through the sidrerías de Gascona or having a drink by the Plaza del Fontán.
Gijón is the other star city of Asturias, with a magnificent port, beach and the charming fishing district of Cimadevilla. Small charming hotels in palaces and villas round off the trip. |
