Ciudad Real, in the heart of Castilla-La Mancha, boasts an architectural heritage that blends styles from Romanesque to Renaissance and Baroque. One of its most representative monuments is the Cathedral of Santa María del Prado, which began as a Romanesque sanctuary and soon became a Gothic gem, and the Church of San Pedro, Gothic in style with Mudéjar decoration. The Puerta de Toledo, a 14th-century Mudéjar gate, is well worth a visit. It is one of the city's ancient gates and, along with the walls, formed part of the medieval fortifications. The Plaza Mayor is surrounded by Renaissance buildings and hosts numerous events. Here you will find the Casa del Arco, the first Town Hall founded in the city in the 15th century. In the city center is the Don Quixote Museum, which |
pays homage to Miguel de Cervantes' famous character. Gasset Park is the largest green space in Ciudad Real. Also nearby is the Tablas de Daimiel National Park, one of Europe's most important wetlands and a prime location for birdwatching. You can also visit the Cabañeros Natural Park, which offers breathtaking landscapes. A few kilometers from Ciudad Real lies the town of Almagro, famous for its Corral de Comedias, an open-air medieval theater, the oldest in Spain, and for its Renaissance architecture. The solemn Holy Week processions through the old town, the festivities in honor of the Virgin of Alarcos in May, and the cultural events, along with the local cuisine featuring dishes like pisto manchego and gazpacho, make a visit to Ciudad Real an unforgettable experience. |

The owner of this unique hotel is Eugenio Bermejo, a well known Spanish interior designer and painter, who retired early from his interior design career to dedicate his time to painting, for which he bought this XVIIIth Century former military garrison and transformed into a hotel, a very peculiar one... He lives on the premises and runs the hotel practically from his studio which is in a way open to hotel guests. If you like to paint you only have to say so and Eugenio will let you use his studio at no extra charge, except for the cost of the materials. He even gives free counseling!Needless to say, Palacio de la Serna makes you feel the presence of this artist in every corner of the house. The rooms, decorated by him of course, are very different one from another. Each is different, huge and decorated using plenty of contrast: very colorful walls, iron works and antique furniture. There is a perfect blend between the past and the post-modern style.
