Southern Thailand is a thinner stretch of land with two coastlines. Just three hours south of Bangkok, is Pranburi, an exclusive beach resort with several small luxury hotels. Ko Samui, in the Gulf of Thailand, is an island-paradise of beautiful beaches and azure waters. While on the opposite side, in the Andaman Sea, is the upmarket island of Phuket.

For those seeking more than a sea and sand holiday, northern Thailand offers a rich landscape of rice fields and forested mountains. Chiang Mai is the region's capital and exudes an air of quiet sophistication in comparison to Bangkok. Here boutique hotels offer a meditative base from which to explore ancient temples or go trekking in the hills.
