Of all the Caribbean islands, Jamaica seems to be the one that awakens the most curiosity among travellers. Jamaicans have fought long and hard to maintain their customs and identity and numerous legends surround the island as a result.
Jamaica's turbulent history - replete with pirates, revolutions, landowners and rebellious slaves - is fascinating. Reggae, much more than just a genre of music, and Bob Marley in particular have added much to the myths associated with the island. And, of course, the beautiful Caribbean beaches hold their own appeal. For lovers of diving, the beaches around Montego Bay are among the best.
As with all Caribbean islands, Jamaica's beaches are much more developed than its interiors. But it is the mountainous areas of the island, with their lush green forests, that deserve particular attention. The Blue Mountains, for example, is the largest mountain range in Jamaica with the highest peak at 2,250m, affording wonderful views over the whole island.
The inland towns are equally interesting with some old colonial villas that offer an insight into the history of the island. Our small luxury hotels in Jamaica are mainly in Montego Bay and other towns along the coast, but we have also found some lovely boutique hotel in the interiors of the island.
