The traditional image of Christmas is one of snow, hats, gloves and cold boots. However, this does not always have to be the case. Many people choose to have a different experience and go to destinations where the cold is not the main thing. That’s why, on this occasion, we want to tell you about warm Christmas destinations.

Maldives

The first of the warm Christmas destinations we would like to mention are the Maldives. They are located in the Indian Ocean and the best period to visit them is from September to April. It is a little paradise in the south of India with white sand, turquoise water, small wooden huts on the water and beautiful walkways. It is an ideal place to get away from it all.

Christmas Day here is known as the “Festival of Colours“. That’s because the custom is to wear shiny new clothes. It is a time when islanders and tourists buy traditional sarees and gather in the villages.

Canary Islands

Without a doubt, one of the best warm Christmas destinations is the Canary Islands. What is known is that the heat is present all year round in these islands, but there can be differences according to the area. On the beaches of Fuerteventura, Lanzarote or the south of Tenerife you can enjoy temperatures above 20°C.

At Christmas time it is possible to enjoy various celebrations, including open-air concerts. But one of the favourites has to do with the nativity scenes that are organised in the different cities. The big star is the one in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with sculptures made of sand.

You can enjoy Christmas on the islands by staying at Alma Calma Hotel Rural. It is a hotel located in the rural area of the island of Las Palmas, facing the coast of Africa. It is a beautiful rural accommodation with an ecological mentality but incorporating all the luxuries a person needs to relax during their holidays.

Sydney

Sydney is Australia’s largest city and every 24 December it is in the media because of the great celebrations that take place there. The most recurrent image is that of the big fireworks displays. Christmas in Australia is also synonymous with the beach and outdoor cricket matches. It is also important to mention the tradition of the Christmas Eve turkey dinner.

Warm Christmas destinations in South America

Rio de Janeiro

For those who have the possibility and the interest to travel more to look for warm Christmas destinations, let’s go to Rio de Janeiro, in the South American country of Brazil. One of the beaches most associated with Christmas is Copacabana, in this important city. In addition to the magnificent summer temperatures, there are the light shows, the fireworks, the New Year’s Eve macro-party on the beach and the Floating Christmas Tree in the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon.

Varadero

The temperatures in this Cuban city are undoubtedly more pleasant than in European countries at this time of the year, but also more than in other parts of the world. The most important New Year’s Eve party on the island is held here. But the party starts much earlier, from Christmas onwards, when many people congregate on the beautiful beaches to celebrate.

Punta Cana

We stayed in Latin America to spend the holidays in another warm Christmas destination, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. It’s worth bearing in mind that trips to the Caribbean to Punta Cana tend to be cheaper than to other places in the region.

In addition to the beauty of spending the holidays with fellow travellers in this beautiful place, it is worth noting that December in general is one of the best times of the year to visit. This is because it is a time when there is no danger of heavy rains or hurricanes, which can occur at other times. Moreover, the tourist crowds are still lower in December than in later months, so it is still possible to relax without large crowds.

To experience Christmas in this destination you can stay at the Tortuga Bay Hotel. The hotel has a privileged location overlooking the beach. It is a boutique resort set in large gardens within a 1,500-acre ecological reserve. The property was designed by fashion designer Oscar de la Renta.

Warm Christmas destinations in Africa

Douz

In Tunisia and at the gates of the Sahara, Douz is a perfect place to spend Christmas under the stars. Many people take advantage of this time of year to visit the Chott el Djerid, the great salt lake where, among other things, scenes were filmed during the Christmas season.

For a unique Christmas, the best thing to do is to experience the Sahara International Festival. Here, nomadic Tunisian, Libyan, Egyptian and Algerian tribes come together for sand hockey tournaments, craft fairs, belly dancing shows and banquets.

Madagascar

To finish with the warm Christmas destinations, we stay in Africa and head for Madagascar. It is considered one of the most peculiar islands in the world, not only for its indigenous animals, but also for its beaches scented by the ylang-ylang flower. Christmas is an ideal time to visit this destination, as the rain only starts in January.

As far as traditions are concerned, they are very similar to those in Europe. There are decorations, family lunches, gifts, town parties and Christmas carols. However, here you can go to the beach and swim in the sea at this time of year.

Enjoy Christmas in Madagascar by staying at the Nosy Saba Private Island & Spa Hotel. It is a boutique hotel set in 320 acres of natural beauty and surrounded by miles of beautiful beaches. It offers luxury eco-lodge accommodation with excellent service and food.
