Capital of the small European country of the same name, the landscape upon which the City of Luxembourg grew makes it unique. Set on rocks between the gorges of the Alzette and Pétrusse rivers, the unevenness and natural viewpoints are fascinating. Le Chemin de la Corniche, on the city walls, offers spectacular views and a composite of its two layers: La Ville Haute and La Ville Basse.

The Bock Casemates tunnels are a must-see: a 17-km network of military-use halls and galleries used since the Middle Ages as a natural fortress and siege shelter. Its uniqueness has made it a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Grund neighborhood, in the lower part of the city where artisans once lived, exudes charm and romanticism. A series of elevators connect the entire lower area with the upper part. Bridges and viaducts, to unite neighborhoods, are another of Luxembourg's hallmarks. The Adolfe and El Viejo bridge stand out.

Among the remarkable official buildings: the Ducal Palace of Luxembourg, from the 16th century, and the Luxembourg Cathedral, in Gothic style with the crypt of the duchy's kings. Cradle of the European Union, Luxembourg is today a notable financial and administrative center. Visit the modern neighborhood of Kirchberg, which houses some of the institutions of the European Union, and the Mudam, Museum of Modern Art designed by I.M. Pei.
