The Caribbean air caresses Belize, a small country in eastern Central America, where crystal clear turquoise waters bedazzle its coastal contours. Then unfolds the Belize Barrier Reef, the second longest coral reef on the planet. Made up of hundreds of cays, as the low islands are called, it is the kingdom of an extraordinary marine fauna that is easy to spot.
It is a perfect destination for fans of snorkeling. The underwater richness of the Great Blue Hole, some 65 kilometers from the coast, made it a valuable place of study for oceanographer Jacques Cousteau. Sailing from the island Ambergis Caye takes a couple of hours to arrive.

For an aerial perspective of the magnetic dark blue circle of 300 meters in diameter, considered to be the largest sink in the world, a plane flight is essential.
The small size of the country presents a rapid contrast between the maritime strip and an interior with dense jungle. For lovers of archeology, the Mayan culture has left interesting specimens, some hidden in the jungle like El Caracol, in the interior region of Cayo. Altún Ha is another Mayan vestige close to Belize City. In the Stann Creek region, the Placencia lagoon offers long and wonderful beaches. Belize's boutique resorts immerse you in the lush jungle and idyllic coastline. |
