This unique property gives guests the chance of spending a night in a genuine prison. Huis van Bewaring (House of Detention) is located in the town of Almelo, in the eastern part of The Netherlands. Originally built in 1928, Huis van Bewaring has been extensively renovated and transformed, and now offers boutique accommodation in an atmosphere that cannot be found anywhere else.

Situated within easy reach of the city centre of Almelo, the hotel is close to a number of landmarks and attractions, including the St. Georgius basilica, the theatre, and an excellent selection of cafés, restaurants and shopping. The railway station is less than a ten minute walk away.

Huis van Bewaring offers accommodation in just twenty rooms and suites. These are located in the former administration offices, the cell blocks, which were combined into 6 comfortable rooms (2 cells' space each) and 3 spacious suites (3 cells' space each), and the guard house. There are also three beautiful apartments, located in the former house of the director, next to the town square in the middle of the city. These apartments include a kitchen, a sauna and a large roof terrace. The breakfast room of Huis van Bewaring is located in the lower part of the old prison's chapel, and features the original stained-glass windows. Guests can also relax here at any time of the day in the plush lounge furniture, or enjoy a cup of tea or coffee from the pantry.

Double Room with Shared Toilet:
Some of these delightful rooms feature a four-poster bed, and a bath and wash-basin.
Deluxe Double or Twin Room:
These rooms feature a luxurious bathroom, and free toiletries are provided. One double bed or twin beds. Room size 25 sq m.
Suite:
The Suites are spacious and have tea and coffee making facilities. One large double bed. Suite size 32 sq m.
Deluxe Suite:
These even larger suites feature a DVD player, bathrobe and washing machine. One large double bed. Suite size 50 sq m.
Premium Suite:
These huge suites feature a bathroom and seating area. One extra-large double bed. Suite size 65 sq m.

Beds: All the rooms have double beds, in some of the rooms the beds can be separated into two single beds. It is possible to add an extra bed to some rooms, but not all (contact them to ask about this).

Royal Suites/Loft/Former House of the Director:
These beautiful apartments are located next to the town square in the middle of the city. These apartments can be booked for 2 nights or more.
The former house of the director has been converted into 3 luxury apartments including a kitchen, sauna and large roof terrace.
